Eric Maclewis - BAGPIPE SOUNDS
Eric Maclewis
Argyll is a beautiful region of Scotland, including the Kintyre Peninsula and located southwest of the Highlands (opposite Ireland).
George McIntyre was part of the Campbeltown pipe band before joining the 8th Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in 1938.
He was taken prisoner in France (1940) during the Second World War and sent to a camp in Germany.
This is where he composed this majestic Hills Of Argyll.
He also met several pipers in the camps and was able to improve his knowledge of the instrument by using various objects to simulate the fingering.
Several collections of his compositions have been published; however, I chose to base my transcript on a more current interpretation of the Red Hot Chilli Pipers.
