La région de Galloway est située au sud-ouest de l'Ecosse, au sud de Glasgow et au nord de l'Ile de Man.
On y parlait une variante de gaélique, oubliée depuis plusieurs siècles.
La région est riche d'un important passé incluant les clans Douglas, Maxwell, Gordon et Robert The Bruce.
Accessoirement, le nom de Galloway désigne aussi celui d'une race bovine originale car dépourvue de cornes (voir image infra) et arborant parfois une magnifique ceinture (Belted Galloway)...
La chanson Bonnie Gallowa' a été rendue célèbre par la chanteuse écossaise Moira Anderson.
