The theme that inspired Alan Stivell is the canticle for St. Mary of Rostrenen that he had heard played by Jeff le Penven.
The Universal Spirit (Spered Hollvedel in Breton) that animates this magnificent song has long served as an introduction to Delivrance, a pamphlet that can be found on the album Live in Dublin (1975).
