L'air gaélique d'origine, Gàbhaidh Sinn An Rathad Mór, a semble-t-il été composé par un piper du clan MacIain ou MacDonald de Glencoe.
On le retrouve également sous les titres We Will Take The High Road et The Stewart's March.
C'est sous ce dernier nom qu'il aurait été joué par les pipers du clan Stewart lors de la bataille de Pinkie (1547) et lors de celle de Sheriffmuir en 1715 (1re révolte Jacobite).
Les paroles gaéliques n'ont apparemment pas été transposées, c'est pourquoi j'ai choisi de compléter cette page en présentant le poème de Robert Burns, The Battle Of Sherramuir, dans sa version chantée par le groupe The Corries mais sur une autre mélodie.
